Since 1987, EDM has brought the International Conference to the electric utility industry in an effort to provide a forum that focuses on technologies and resources that support the leading corporate objectives of electric utility companies today -- such as reducing operations and maintenance (O&M) costs, increasing power throughput, and improving line reliability. The conference objectives are:

• To provide a forum for professionals to explore the issues that impact the use of utility line structures throughout the world
• To exchange information on the state of the art in research, technology, materials, maintenance, manufacturing, and design
• To showcase products and technologies through the commercial exhibition

Utility executives, managers, and engineers with responsibility for transmission, distribution, substation design, construction, and O&M are invited.

Overhead Line Management & Raptor Protection Workshop 

St. Louis, Missouri USA - Omni Majestic Hotel
September 24-25, 2009

For more than 19 years, EDM has held workshops geared toward current issues related to overhead line inspection, maintenance and management.  The workshop is for utility personnel only. Attendees are presented with approaches to line inspection, assessment, and restoration including: 

• facilities mapping
• raptor protection
• joint use
• asset management
• corrosion detection
• methods for quantifying and tracking component conditions, and
• wood pole treatments. 

Information will be presented on laws protecting birds of prey from electrocutions and measures used to effectively mitigate electrical contacts. Information will also be presented on the effectiveness of various retrofitting products and approaches. Common misapplications will also be addressed. Methods to develop an Avian Protection Plan also will be covered.
