Since 1987, EDM has brought the International Conference to the electric utility industry in an effort to provide a forum that focuses on technologies and resources that support the leading corporate objectives of electric utility companies today -- such as reducing operations and maintenance (O&M) costs, increasing power throughput, and improving line reliability. The conference objectives are:

  • To provide a forum for professionals to explore the issues that impact the use of utility line structures throughout the world
  • To exchange information on the state of the art in research, technology, materials, maintenance, manufacturing, and design
  • To showcase products and technologies through the commercial exhibition

Utility executives, managers, and engineers with responsibility for transmission, distribution, substation design, construction, and O&M are invited.

A half-day vendor expo was part of the conference again this year. Contact EDM to reserve your spot for 2016! We cannot provide anyone not in attendance with our list of attendees-- it is against our privacy policy.

Finally, a field session showcasing state-of-the-art technologies offered the opportunity to test and observe product demonstrations.

Avian Protection and Overhead Line Management

(contact EDM if you are interested in bringing this or a similar workshop program to your area)

Last held in Fort Collins, Colorado, March 7-8, 2013

For more than 20 years, EDM has held workshops geared toward current issues related to overhead line inspection, maintenance and management.  This day and a half Workshop – presented for industry only – is specifically geared towards addressing oil and gas related issues as it pertains to avian issues and power line engineering/maintenance.

The first session will provide information on avian issues associated with electrical contacts, pits/ponds, flares/stacks, and collisions. Information will also be provided on laws protecting birds of prey and measures to effectively mitigate problems. Information will be presented on the effectiveness of various retrofitting products and approaches. Common misapplications will also be addressed.

The second day will focus on issues related to overhead line inspection, assessment, joint use and restoration and will include discussion and demonstration of tools and methods by which to enhance inspection and maintenance programs including: facilities mapping, methods for quantifying and tracking component conditions, and wood pole treatments.
